Adoption and Children Act 2002

Introduction

The law of adoption in Britain is governed by the 1976 adoption act. It has been phased out under the new adoption law which is the adoption and children act 2002. This children adoption act of 2002 has received royal assent in the year 2002. The law was fully implemented in the country by the end of 2004. It has been observed that England has followed the rules of the other developed jurisdiction of the world and the adoption order in the country has resulted in the adopter child and adopter or adopters who assume the similar relationship under law just as in the case in which the child is considered to be borne by the adopter and within a properly defined marriage (Council, 2008). This paper discus the changes that have taken place in the legislation of children adoption act 2002 and its impact on the health care profession over the years. The paper investigates the need of the children adoption act 2002, when did it come into force and its impact on the health care profession.

The government of England had developed a target of an increase of 40 % in the children adoption that would be looked after by the adopters by the year 2004 and 2005 (Ball, 2005). Some notable changes in the act of 2002 include the increasing number of adoptions in the country. The government made important measures that enhanced the system of adoption and also provided support to the cause including the incorporation of children and adoption act 2002(Ball, 2005). These measures were taken in the year 2002 for the encouragement of a large number of people towards the adoption. This was done as part of the strategy to assist the adoptive placement and gain success in the system of children adoption in the country. The children and adoption act 2002 also placed a duty over the local authorities by making proper arrangements that could support the provision of the services of adoption support in the country according to the regulations set out for the country. The duty imposed onto the local authorities was used to deliver and form a new framework for assisting the services of adoption support ...
