Thesis Statement

“Education makes elder people meeting and socializing, which connects and opens up new perspectives of the personal lives for elder people”.

INTRODUCTION

Much of the population of America consists of retirees or early retirement with many years of life whose work ahead. Their physical and mental activity has been reduced drastically. Many investigations have shown the need for maintaining the activity mainly cognitive to alleviate or prevent the natural- degenerative deterioration. Governments have developed specific and-leisure detrainment, mainly to preserve the activity. Pedagogy is committed to use their creative potential, education and training in the design and implementation of specific programs focusing the activities for the exercise of the mental activity as a contributor to reduce the negative effects of aging (Schwandt, 2008).

Increase the general level of competence of citizens means to increase their career opportunities and contribute to the fight against poverty and social exclusion. To this end, by notice that explores the theme of education and training of adults, the Commission encourages Member States to further enhance and consolidate learning opportunities for adults and make it available to all citizens (Roessger, 2012). This paper analyses the importance of education to senior and the role of institutes and organizations in lifelong learning. Moreover this paper analyses the important Issues for Elder Education.

DISCUSSION

The promotion of lifelong learning is part of the Strategy of society, which sets targets for economic growth, competitiveness and social inclusion. Although the United States recognize the importance of education and lifelong learning, in Europe today the number of adult learners remains below the target set by the Member States. With the communication of importance of old age education; the government encourages States to ensure the quality of their education and training of adults and the general level of competence of their citizens (Schwandt, 2008). With Better education, adults can play a vital role in the training of American citizens and the social inclusion of disadvantaged in the labour market, such as migrants and the elderly, more and more in America. In addition, to improve the education and training of adults is a considerable advantage on the collective and the individual level. Increase in the general level of skills of citizens contributes to improving economic indicators, such as productivity and the rate of unemployment, and social indicators, such as citizen participation, crime and health care costs (Merriam, et al., 2007).

Importance of Education to seniors

One of the phenomena arising from the last decades of the twentieth century as result of a gradual development of the welfare state is aging population. Every time they are living longer and this increase in progressive- life expectancy presents a challenge to be met with urgency. Until relatively recently, the old age people could enjoy a few years of retirement and idleness with a relaxed, quiet and satisfied life (Roessger, 2012).
