Introduction

The Progressive Era takes its name from the Progressive party of 1912 - 1924 where there was strong general feeling at that time and history that the early years of the twentieth century were mostly focused on the democratic reforms. The Great Depression is a historic event that was considered to be the most drastic economic downturn in the history of the United States of America (Jaycox, 2005). The Great Depression started in the 1930s and continued till the 1940s. This historic economic downturn took place before the initiation of the Second World War. There were other countries as well which victims of this economic downturn became. The time period of the Progressive Era through the Great Depression has significance in the history of the United States. The reason for the importance of this historic era is because it includes various events that are considered as the turning points and shape up an important part of the American history (Niebuhr, 2008). A brief discussion of these historic events and related factors will be discussed in this paper.

Major Historical Turning Points in the Period

It has been observed by studying and researching the American history that the time period of Progressive Era through the Great Depression includes various historic events which are considered very important for the history of United States of America. The two most significant events that are considered as the historic turning pints of this period are the Stock Market crash and the Women Right Movement. These two events are considered as the turning points of American history because these two events changes and gave a new direction to the history of the country (Berton, 2001). Many things and the perspective of human thinking changed. A brief discussion on how these events turned around the history of United States is presented as follows.

Impact of the Major Historical Turning Points

The above mentioned historical turning points had significant impacts on the history of United States. The first mentioned turning point that is the Women Rights Movement has a positive impact on the history of the United States. The purpose of this movement was to highlight the role of women in the country and identify that women are an integral part of the reforms in the country. A significant impact that this movement created was that women started working and they were no longer at home. In addition to this, the vote of women was also made important in the reform of the country (Mead, 2006). This event still has an impact on the current American society.

The second historic turning point is the stock market crash in the country during the period of the Great Depression. The stock market crash left a negative impact on the economy of the country and is considered as the most affecting economic downturn in the history of the United States.
