Introduction

Stephen Crane was a novelist and poet, and one of the earliest exponents of the naturalistic style. Crane was born on November 1, 1871, in Newark (New Jersey), and educated at Lafayette College and Syracuse. In 1890, he moved to New York to work on their own as a reporter for the slums, working alongside their poverty would provide material for his first novel, Maggie, a Girl of the Streets (1893).
