An Investigation of Gender Inequality attributes in Germany, Japan, Russia and United States



ABSTRACT

In this study, various factors are analyzed to show the impact on gender discrimination. The factors in which job status of a life partner and marital status of male employees are included. In the light of cultural and political factors, these demographic factors are observed which defines the genders' social roles. By having social and political norms, the sample has collected across six countries which are consisted of 600 observations (200 married male employees with office going wives, 200 unmarried male employees and 200 male employees having stay at their house-wives). These countries are included; Britain, Saudi Arab, Japan, USA and Bahrain. The findings of this study show that there are significance differences in the attitudes towards women, on their workplaces which are observed across different countries. For this research, the Anova and Multiple Classification Analysis (MSA) techniques are used. The results of this study show that there is a progressive attitude towards the attitudes of women, at their working place in Britain and USA. The sample which is collected from UK (USA) are, 98.5% (99.5%) of married male employees with their working wives, 97.5% (99%) of married male employees with stay house wives and 97.5% (99%) of unmarried male employees show significantly positive attitude towards job doing women. Towards the gender discrimination, it showed mixed responses in the sample which is collected from Japan and Russia i.e. 95.5% (97%) of married male employees with staying house-wives, 98% (98.5%) of married male employees with office going wives and 96% (98%) of unmarried male employees are having a positive and significant belief for doing working women. There is a conservative view towards women which are at working place in the sample collected from Bahrain and Saudi Arab i.e. 95.5% (97.5%) of married male employees with office going wives, 94.5% (97%) of unmarried male employees and 94% (96%) of married male employees with staying house-wives are towards the gender discrimination significantly.

Introduction

In the phenomenon of gender inequality, there is an important factor which is the gender division of social roles. Men are real earners while women are home managers in the most of the cultures. Regarding some important social issues, there is always a dominance of male for making decisions. As a result, cultural, social and political values affect these social roles. While women is considered less importance in some cultures due to which their role in making social decisions are more concerned and vital. Thus, the dimension of social roles of the women is cleared by these values (Hanson et. al, 2004). But in some cultures women are provided more protection, sensitiveness and care. Due to which women are more privileged in matter of social roles because of cultural characteristics but it also creates difficulty for women by limiting their freedom.
