About Keri Russell-Pool and Approach She Follows

Keri Russell Pool has been working as studio artists since her graduation from Cleveland Institute of Art in 1991. She was born in 1967 in Salem, Massachusetts, and is a native of United Sates of America. Pre-dominantly a flame-worker, Keri extensively uses flame to work on her objects. She is known to create forms from patterns following techniques she develops on her own. Keri is more known as craftsman than artist because of the work she do, because of the model of craftsmanship her work so immensely follows and is built upon.

Her husband; Marc, who is also very keen artist; working in the art industry for about twenty years now, follows approaches and techniques different from what her wife uses. But they collaborate while working and contribute to each others work, sometimes to a greater whereas sometimes to lesser extent. They try to retain their individual identity and thus it depends upon their current work, the level to which they will collaborate. We each offer insight and suggestions on the other's work. More often it is Marc's blown birds that are incorporated into Keri's structures.

Following modified approach to flame working, Keri melts and uses the same glass furnace from which Marc sculpts his components to form her glass rods for her project. This forms an implicit compatibility between the blown glass birds and the flame worked structures that Keri is specialized in. Working using soft glass is rarely attempted by flame workers as frequently as done by Keri because of difficulties attached. This glass is not as strong enough to undergo torch work as borosilicate glass, but it is preferred because it can emulate greater array ...
