Comparison of two Paintings

Fernand Léger (The Painter)

Fernand Leger was a painter of French origin. He was one of the first painters who experimented with abstract art. Leger was not trained as a painter originally. Initially he was an architect's draughtsman and a photographic retoucher. Leger, even being one of first abstract painters, rejected the abstraction in the period of the first world was. He described the reason for giving up abstraction as his enhanced ability to discover beauty in the common objects. This beauty of the common objects he described as poetic images in the everyday life. After the WW I, he started painting in a more clean and accurate style and strokes. This style emphasized the definition of objects in the simplest terms possible. These terms included bold colors, taking cityscape and machine parts into his most of the post WWI paintings.

The second phase of Leger's life began after Second World War. During the WW2 Leger shifted to the US and took up a teaching job at Yale. When the Second World War ended in the year 1945, Leger returned to his home country of France. He opened his own academy in Paris. In his academy he used to make painting that celebrates people with thick contour and he also painted in flat and clear colors. He also produced different windows and tapestries for different churches. In the year of 1950 he opened up an art studio. This studio because of the eccentric nature of Leger became a museum known as the Leger museum. Leger was one of the most influential painters of t20th century having a French origin and his contribution will never be forgotten.
