Introduction

Rosie Schaap is a writer for the New York Times Magazine. She wrote this entry for the New York Times Magazine Blog, the 6th Floor, which provides the opinions, arguments, and views of the New York Times staff including the editors, writers, photograph editors, and researchers (New York Times, 2012). The article and blog entry has been titled, 'Celebrating Bloomsday with James Joyce (and other Irish writers)' (Schaap, 2012). The primary purpose of the author is to communicate with mass audience of the New York Times newspaper, that of the New York Times Sunday magazine, and that of the magazine blog. In addition, in this article she wants to share her views regarding the Bloomsday, in addition to identifying the happenings and other events related to the day. The article appears in the June 15, 2012 entry of the 6th floor blog. It is only published online and does not appear in the printed magazine. Additionally, this blog is very important as it enables the various staff members of the newspaper to express candid views and opinions regarding current happenings and news. In addition, they also use the blog to inform their audiences regarding upcoming events and must-go happenings in the city. It is very important to analyze the various pieces of any public, mass communication element. Analyzing an article in New York Times magazine blog

The author of the article points out that she talked about James Joyce famous novel, Ulysses, in one of her earlier writings. The audience was very receptive. She tells that the novel has been set in Dublin and if one visits Dublin, the way she did a few weeks ago, then it is not possible to skip the landmarks and other places identified in the novel. In addition, the characters also become live in Dublin including Leopold Bloom and others. However, June 16 is celebrated as the Bloomsday when the Ulysses fans from around the world enliven the characters of the story. Likewise, the Bloomsday will also come to Broadway. In addition, she mentions that it is the best time to identify some of the current best-selling Irish novels which include 'City of Bohane' by Kevin Barry, 'This is how it ends' by Kathleen MacMohan, and 'Solace' by Belinda McKeon. Lastly, she suggests that the Bloomsday cannot be celebrated without drinking. So, she advocates drinking in tune with the novel and she mentions multiple drinks ranging from gin to wine to absinthe (Schaap, 2012).
