Introduction

Winning a trip to China is once in a life time opportunity and missing it is out of question for any fun and adventure loving person like me. Out f all my love to explore places and people, I decided to enter into a contest to nominate four out of eight useful inventions or contribution from China. The search of those eight contributions took me to the public library. I went through the books which were thronged with the glorious past of ancient Chinese people. Form such a vast contribution it was difficult indeed to select eight only. One reason of the difficulty is that ancient Chinese were highly active in art, architecture, music, fashion, food, literature and last but not the least is technology (Carter, 1931).

For this reason, silk is believed to have linked two great nations of Rome and China in the first century A.D. The route between China and the Mediterranean was commonly known as the Silk Road; the name given to the overland route because of the extensive export of the fabric to the western countries (Carter, 1931).
