Review of the Book

Webber sketches the move from modernity to post-modernist in philosophy, culture and science and illustrates how this influences the modern search for faith for faith. He displays how Christians have habitually struggled to articulate the belief in their own cultural and chronicle contexts, and finds these endeavors from the early place of adoration through the medieval era and the Reformation, to the increase of modernity after the Enlightenment.  In doing so, Webber challenges that the modernist assumptions which characterized so much of Christian thought and practices today are not only discredited by postmodern considering, but that they really manage a disservice to the trustworthy production of the good report of Jesus Christ.  (Chris Armstrong, 2008)

Webber suggests the post modern culture parallels culture of ancient church in a way that will revive many of the beliefs of the more classical Christianity. In his book Ancient-Future faith, Robert Webber challenges us to familiarize ourselves with and implement the timeless truths of classical Christianity. The book divided into five sections each dedicated to an in depth study of how the ancient church believed and how these beliefs can be utilized in a post modern world. The subtitle of the book suggests that Ancient Future Faith is written with an evangelical readership in mind. Deep appreciations of the theological and richness integrity of the liturgical expression are found by those in the catholic Anglican tradition. (Chris Armstrong, 2008)

The basis of Christian faith is the importance given to the Christ universally. Classical Christianity with strange postmodern relativism is acknowledged by Webber. According to him, Evangelism is aimed at the entrance into a life survived beneath the lordship of Christ in the context of Christian community; it is not aimed at to a simple consent to ...
