Andrew Jackson is the seventh President of United States and was born on March 15, 1767. Andrew Jackson was not wealthy by birth; perhaps this is why common people are more attracted towards him. He is also known as the man of common people. He was the people's president. However, it is ironic that Andrew Jackson was the promoter of slavery. Andrew Jackson is known for his successes in the battle fields. He is famous for laying the foundations of the democratic political party along with Martin Van Buren. Ward writes that Jackson 'put himself at the head of the great movement of age in which he lived'. It is truly said that Andrew Jackson worked 'through masses of men' and moved them along with him, and everyone admired him and praised him (Ward, 1962). He is also known as 'Old Hickory' in United States. He was the first president who ever earned a nickname.

Andrew Jackson has been regarded as one of the first modern presidents of America. He was the first popularly elected president and acted as a populist throughout his tenure. During his government, the powers that the president holds were increased. It was Jackson who introduced the system in politics; in which when any party wins the presidential elections then it will reward government jobs to its workers. This was done in order to praised the workers for their efforts and make them do their work with more interest and effort. He was criticized for committing this act. But he replied by saying that he was only replacing aristocrats with the ordinary common man.
