Animal forensic

Abstract

The field of Animal forensics is a growing specialty in the Veterinary medicine which has grown beyond anyone's expectations. It tends to hold many opportunities for research. People abuse and neglect animals to extreme degrees. Animals are stabbed, beaten, shot and starved. Many more animal criminals are caught and prosecuted than in the past. As this area becomes more prominent, there will be some new fields of specialization which will open up and will be giving the investigator the chance to become an expert in some particular aspect of veterinary forensics and therefore each of this new area of expertise will give a new opportunity for research (Tilstone, William, Savage & Clark, 2006).

Introduction

Forensic science is mainly used to investigate the crime scenes and it also helps determine the perpetrators. Forensic sciences were practiced before they were identified as forensic anthropology or even forensic science. Forensic science is traditionally that scientific discipline which determines how a crime was committed and submits those findings to courts of law. The focus is the courtroom, and forensic scientists present testimony to clarify what happened, leaving judges and juries to rule on culpability. The term “forensic” means “forum” in French and in Latin it means “public”. Commonly the scientist of forensics defines the field as the physical and natural sciences application of methods to the matters of criminal and civil law. The law of criminal cannot only involve prosecution and investigation of crimes such as drug dealing, murder and rape but also in matters where some crime has not been committed but also in which somebody is charged with a civil wrong such as if somebody causes will full pollution of water or air causing industrial injuries (William, 1996).

Animal forensics

In U.S millions of households contain pets at home, on property and the one's that simply pass through. Animals can be victims (as in animal theft cases, animal cruelty or lost pet remains identifying), witnesses(with a victim or a crime scene the DNA of animals can be linked, DNA can be transferred from various sources to the suspect or the scene of crime) and perpetrators (identifying the animals which are responsible for property damage, unrestrained animals that cause an accident and identification of any animal which can be involved in an attack on other animal or a person) therefore the field of animal forensics is vital. The future of the animal forensic mimics its past. Expansion of databases will be continued to be expanded by the scientist that will help them to match the samples from an individual animal, identify the species, and tie the suspects to the crime scene and their victims. And the new technologies will be making their work very easy and their results will be more definitive. Scientist usually works with the items such as strips of leather, poison, talons, ...
