Introduction

Sub Saharan African countries are among underdeveloped economies, there are many reasons of it such as increased population, low education rate and high unemployment conditions etc. Despite this general observation about economies of Sub Saharan Societies there is one more reason identified by a number of different scholars, according to which, lack of proper democratic system is another reason for the underdeveloped economy of Sub Saharan Countries. This annotated bibliography provides detailed discussion of the scholarly views about the effect of democracy on the economic development of Sub Saharan Countries.

Abdi (2003) conducted research on the political, economic, and educational system of Sub Saharan Africa. This research highlights the impact of education on democratic system, which eventually results in the growth of economy. According to Abdi, improvement in the educational system is the key to liberty and democratic system, liberal democracy is the face value and it provides opportunities for the public to have selective Africanizing democracy. This liberal democracy also provides opportunities for the Sub Saharan African's, to meet their needs and expectancies (Abdi, 2003). Alence(2009) discussed four counties that showed positive development of economy after the democratic system. According to Alence, in democratic system, bad economics results in bad politics. He discussed examples of Congo, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana, which show economic growth under the democratic system.
