Time to finish 100 yard Swim among Different Groups

Introduction

Research Question

How much time is taken to finish 100 yard swim for the groups of 15 hours, 15 to 25 hours and less than 25 hours?

Hypothesis

H0: There is no significant difference for the time (in seconds) taken to finish a 100 yard swim for three different groups of swimmers.

HA: There is a significant difference for the time (in seconds) taken to finish a 100 yard swim for three different groups of swimmers.

Statistical Test

According to the given hypothesis, ANOVA is the recommended statistical tool which should be used to analyze the difference within the three groups that 15 hours, 15 to 25 hours and less than 25 hours. The basis of this statement is that the difference is to be determined between more than two groups.

Types of Errors

In the study of time to finish 100 yard swim among different groups that are 15 hours, 15 to 25 hours and less than 25 hours, it is possible that the type II error may occur, which indicates that failure to reject the false null hypothesis (Gravetter and Wallnau, 2010). This error may possibly occur due to inappropriate sample size as due to limited sample size or inappropriate sampling technique, the type II error can occur for time to finish 100 yard swim for 15 hours, 15 to 25 hours and less than 25 hours.

Methods

Participants

For the study, the total numbers of participant that will be selected include 30. Moreover, data will be selected from both male and females within the age group of 18 to 30 years, as the purpose of the study is to know the time taken to finish the 100 yard swim among different groups.
