The US is in trouble? Have you done your bit!The poster “Buy War Bonds” portrays the campaign that United States of America used in World War II. These war bonds were used to finance military activities of United States of America in World War II. This image presents the argument or some may called it a tag line to motivate and mobilize peoples to give their share and make US do its part in World War II. US used war bonds in World War II because they had some experience in using this kind of financing. US issued liberty bonds in World War I. The extra benefit that US want to reap through this source of financing is that this makes everyone feel that they are part of the war (Pittsburgh, search.proquest.com).
Essential Elements & Rhetorical Goals
In this section, we would discuss different essential element of the discussed visual and argument. Following are some of the elements of this visual argument.
Nationalism
This visual argument clearly focuses on the aspect of nationalism. When we observe the visual closely, we can clearly see that Army personnel are depicted in a way that they are fighting intensely and dust in the background with aircraft planes in the sky clearly portrays the seriousness of the situation.
As far the rhetorical goals are concerned, by focusing on the aspect of nationalism, this visual aims to motivate each and every citizen of US to buy war bonds. From this visual the US government tries to communicate to their peoples that by actually fighting for the nation, is not the only way you can contribute but you can also contribute to this war by using your dollars and this effort is also considered to be very precious (Streib, 1948, pp 272-279).
