Paper Summary

Mohamed Aboelmaged and Tarek Geba have conducted a research with the title, “Mobile Banking Adoption: An Examination of Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behaviour” in 2013. The purpose of the research is to understand the mobile banking adoption with the integration of Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). In current environment, banks look for innovating strategies in facilitating customers in different ways and banks are sharing information online and making transaction possible by the use of internet. Customers are now feeling comfortable with the adoption of technology and taking maximum advantage. Adoption of technology has allowed banks to interact with customers effectively where customers can avail an interactive and immediate banking service anywhere and anytime that are a value added service for them. Banking through mobile service has also increased the quantity of data processing along with improving operational performance. Statistics have showed that mobile banking service is getting higher. Hence, it is important to understand the adoption of mobile banking by analyzing aspects that can influence intention of users to use mobile banking.

Main Critique

The researchers have showed concerned regarding the factors that can have influence on individuals in adopting mobile banking, particularly in United Arab Emirates. The researchers have intended to investigate the role of Theory of Planned Behaviour and Technology Acceptance Model to predict the adoption of mobile banking. The researchers have explored the context of United Arab Emirates to address the issue regarding the adoption of mobile banking. It is important to understand the behaviours of individuals in context to the residents of United Arab Emirates to complete the gap of knowledge.

In this study, the researchers have used seven hypotheses to complete the research. First hypothesis, Attitude has a positive role in influencing an individual to adopt mobile banking. Second hypothesis, the perceiving of subjective norm has a positive role in influencing an individual to adopt mobile banking. Third hypothesis, the perceiving of behavioural control has a positive role in influencing an individual to adopt mobile banking. Fourth hypothesis is a perceived usefulness that has a positive role in influencing an individual to adopt mobile banking. Fifth hypothesis, in perceiving usefulness that has a positive role in influencing attitude of individuals to adopt mobile banking. Sixth hypothesis is the easiness in using that has a positive role in influencing an individual to adopt mobile banking. Seventh hypothesis, in perceiving easiness in using that has a positive role towards the usefulness of mobile banking.

In order to complete the hypotheses, the researchers have used Theory of planned behaviour and Technology Acceptable Model. Both the models have put on attention to understand intentions of consumers in using new system and technology. Even though, TAM and TPM have been used widely in examining acceptance and adoption of Information Technology, but both of the models have not yet provided an appropriate predictions or explanations regarding the behaviour of people.
