Answer # 1

With regards to the survey that was conducted to analyze the attitudes of the employees, ASDA realized that lack of career progression was seen as a problem. Less than half of the hourly-paid staff agreed that ASDA offered ample opportunity of promotion. Therefore, a programme was designed by the company that aimed to train employees to become managers. Staff nominated itself to participate in the programme, but they had to meet criteria to enrol themselves in the programme. The programme was designed to provide training to employees with reference to levels that they had to pass to acquire a role at ASDA. However, there were also some limitations of the programme because the employees had to fulfil criteria to be eligible to participate in it. Moreover, the programme was time-consuming and somewhat complex (Beardwell, et.al 2004, pp. 187). Besides this, there were three steps in the programme because of which some employees felt hesitant and were confused. However, results of the survey shows that improvements could be seen after the implementation of the programme.
