Assessment of t-test

Abstract

This research paper is based in the critical statistical analysis of the article: “comparison of nurse educators' and nursing students' descriptions of teaching codes of ethics”, which is based on the nursing education in Finland. This article was retrieved from the Kaplan University. This paper focuses on the statistics used in the article and its appropriateness. The tests used in the article are t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, chi-square, and descriptive. This paper suggests that statistics used is appropriate because mean, standard deviation, and mean difference show that nursing teachers show more extensive significance of teaching than the perception of the student. This paper states that the assumptions of the t-test met with the data used in the article. It also focuses on the display of data and its appropriateness.

Assessment of t-test

Introduction

The critical analysis of the article: “comparison of nurse educators' and nursing students' descriptions of teaching codes of ethics” is carried out in this paper. This article was written by Olivia Numminen, Helena Leino-Kilpi, Arie van der Arend, and Jouko Katajisto in 2011. This article is based on the study of the code of ethics of nursing in nursing education in Finland. The strength and appropriateness of the statistical analysis technique sued in this article is examined in this paper. In this article, the researchers took two sample sizes of teachers and students in nursing field. The sample size of 183 nursing educators was taken and the sample size of 214 nursing students was taken. This study is based on the nursing code of ethics educated by the teachers was more significant than the student's ability of applying the ethical codes. Most of the students and teachers evaluated that the teachers possess sufficient knowledge of ethical codes for teaching the students. The educators taught the nursing codes extensively and the students perceived the teachings of the ethical codes more extensively. The article uses SPSS for analysis of the data collected from the respondents (educators and students) through the use of questionnaire which is an appropriate and effective instrument of data collection.

Discussion

Examination of the statistic used in the article

The statistic that is intended to be examined in this article is the comparison of the two descriptions given by the nursing students and nursing teachers on the code of ethics in nursing education. For this reason, the mean, median, standard deviation, variance, and standard error of the two descriptions is intended to be examined. As this article is based on the two sample sets given by two different respondents, therefore, this article must use the statistic of sum of differences between the groups by applying ANOVA technique. The t-test that is test for independent gives results about the two independent samples. The use of Pearson correlation gives the statistics of the intensity of the relationship between the two variables ...
