Introduction

21st century is the era of technology and the growth and replacement of technology is so quick and sudden that it does not provide any product to forecast its future for long terms. The manafacturing induistry of every product faces serious challenge as they are mononpolistic and any new manafacturing company can attract maximum salkes with good marketing and innovative porducts. The most dominant and rapidly changing industry is the industry of mobile phone manufacturing. Mobile phone industry has its birth in the early 1940s and since then the mobile has transformed in five generations.

It wasn't an old time when people used to carry heavy mobile phones with single line display, displaying only the number of the caller. Then an era arrived dominated by nokia and Motorola handsets where SMS feature and contact books feature was introduced. Times changed mobiles endorsed gaming facilities like snakes and Sudoku, then display screen arrived, polyphonic tones and then music facilities and the latest emergence of android has shattered all the previous existing technologies. Mobile phone has modified itself from a calling device to an accessory which has effetced the use of camerta, music players and now even computer is challenged by the latest mobile phones.

Just before the arrival of smart phone technology by iPhone and Google supported android, a significant share was controlled by the smart phone namely BlackBerry manufactured by Research in Motion ltd. (RIM). However, since the last year and a quarter the sales of RIM products have significantly declined and it is expected to soon reach the state of obsolesces. RIM entered the market by targetting the corporate mobile phone users and soon its cutting edge technology was challenged by touch screen mobile phones which are not only cheaper but faster as well. In this paper we will be discussing the factors due to which the product has declined and the measures which can control the decline of the product (Stewart, 2012).

Discussion

According to the latest US census bureau and eMarketer research based on the internet conducted between an age group of 8 years till 64 years, the user of smart phones has rise from 31% till 44%. In terms of population the user of Smartphone has risen from 73.2 million users to 107 million users. Although the market share of Blackberry has declined from 25% to 16% from the year 2011 to 2012. This is a suddeen decline because BlackBerry had no perfomance issues but its sales dropped drastically due to lack of innovcation and far superior competitors (OPA, 2012).

Blackberry attained its popularity because of its unique software, messenger and the fastest internet surfing and refreshing abilities. It gained popularity for its unique style, track wheel and encoded messaging. It had a diffrewnt design then conventional mobile phones and emerged as a specific brand for the corporatre users.
