Pros & Cons of Work group in Higher Education

Introduction

Learning & development is a continuous process. Distinct academic levels require different learning techniques. In particular, research requires a set of techniques. The techniques constitute a research strategy. Research strategy may be unique to individual learners. Every learner has its own preferences about the research procedure. The purpose of education is to be able to “reason” with “moral”. This assignment presents four major parts of the discussion. In the first part, the assignment presents an outline of the research strategy. The topic of research is about pros & cons of group work in higher education. Therefore, the author has chosen the research strategy accordingly. In the second part, the assignment highlights the project plan & the required set of activities. In the third part, the assignment documents the essay as per the research topic. Lastly, the write up records critical reflection analysis over the research strategy, project plan and lessons learnt from undertaking the assignment.

Task 1: Research Strategy

Today, we are living in the era of Information & Communication Technology (ICT). This makes information & data accessible to distinct parts of the world. The Web has enabled easy access to authentic & credible resources. However, there are some sources which are not reliable for the academic studies. For instance, educationists object to the usage of blogs & open resources like (Wikis). It is because anyone can edit data in these web sources. In this way, the reliability & accuracy constitute two fundamental elements to the online resources. Badke (2011) reflected, "Information has to be reliable, relevant, and current and so on" (p.1). Further, he explains that research needs data which does not reflect biasness. From Badke”s opinion, one can comprehend that information has a critical value in a research. The purpose of information is to inform. Therefore, the acquired information must be accurate in order to present precise research. Badke (2011) indicated that World Wide Web is a revolutionary technology. However, the author objects to the "absence of gatekeepers on the Web. Anyone can publish anything without impediment” (Badke, 2011. p.7).

Besides all the accessibility benefits, the issue of uncertainty is one of the biggest concerns. The research strategy, for this assignment, embeds the following points:

The researcher will not seek information from blogs, in order to avoid uncertainty.

The assignment will not include information from web content.

No information will be obtained from Wikis or any other such encyclopaedia.

Data Collection

There are mainly two types of data sources: primary & secondary data sources. One can obtain primary research data from the human subjects. On the other hand, secondary sources refer to work of other researchers (Rubin et al, 2010, p. 28). In this assignment, the author follows secondary data ...
