Australian Film Festival Funding Proposal

Thesis Statement

The scope of Australian Film Festival in international markets

Introduction

Film festivals are the excellent opportunity for the film makers to prove their true worth and get the audience response. Whether it is full length or short film, filmmakers can always get publicity, exposure and sometimes distribution. The Australian film industry is one of the expanding film industries in the world. Each year it produces a reasonable number of films. With similarity between American film industries, it is still lagging behind. Many actors of Australia go to America Film Industry, due to lack of adequate film festivals in the market.

One of the important characteristics of the mission of Australian Film Festival is to market, promote and distribute the excellent productions of Australia Film Industry and Australian culture in the developed and emerging markets of the world. Australian films receive wide appreciation among the audiences for their fresh and creative work. There is a huge market of Australia film Industry in various parts of the world to get numerous benefits from the rich, vibrant and exponentially globalizing film and television industry (if, 2012, www.if.com.au). One such large market is the India. An Australian Film Festival of India (AFFI) is the organization in India already working on its part to promote the festivals of Australian films in the India. Australian Film Festival of India is currently not supported by Screen Australia and does not come under his facilitation. An effort has thus made to propose this funding request to Screen Australia (An Australian Film Initiative, 2011, www.aafilminitiative.org).

The Australian Film Festival is planning to launch the short feature films of Australia in India. This festival is for the general masses of the India. The feasibility of the festival that India is the good market for the Australian films supports the fact that the many festivals conducted in the past were wide spread successful. Theses festivals received wide commendation from the general audiences, Australian and Indian government, and sponsors in India, film agencies and other trade bodies.

The films included in this festival show the milestones and excellent work produced in the section of short films. They have won Academy awards, and some of them even nominated to the major international awards festivals like Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Sundance and Toronto. This proves their appreciation nationally and internationally. The festival does not have single genre of the films but variety of subjects so that the audience can have the fresh taste. These include dramas, animations, comedies, documentaries and the like. From over 300 acclaimed short films, 10 of them shortlisted for this event. These include Appy Ever After; Bear, Crosshairs, Heck, Julian, Murder Mouth, The palace, Peekaboo, The Law and Nullarbor. In festival conducted in Australia, the same short films have shown in which, Julian won the people choice award among all others (Australian Film Festival, 2012, www.australianfilmfestival.com.au).
