Introduction

The book "Beyond God the Father” is written by Mary Daly. The book written by Mary is considered one of the conventional of feminist theological literature. Mary has criticized the Christian religion and the force behind patriarchy. The book is considered as challenging and revealing for its audience as it was forty years ago when it was written. Daly says that the book is based on theology and philosophy which is free from their patriarchy. Daly has shown the revolution of women over the years, and has pointed the ideology of the society. Daly has beautifully portrayed an ontological understanding of human becoming and has also revealed the harmful association of Christianity with patriarchy.

As Daly believes that Christianity can never be separated from patriarchy. Daly has explained that women encouraging radical feminism have faced a tough and a disheartening time in the early years. Daly has rejected the affects of Christian symbols on the spiritual experiences of women and believes that the feminist experience is the true source of liberalization. Daly has criticized the symbols and teachings of Christianity which believe that women are inferior.

Discussion

Mary Daly believes that many feminist models have supported the male dominancy in hierarchy. In chapter two of the book Daly explains that the sexual caste system is supported by the male symbolism of god and the patriarchal relationship between man and god. The concept of the chapter is based on the fact that women should abandon the patriarchal beliefs and find their spirituality themselves. Mary Daly has argued that whether it is Islam, Christianity or Judaism, all these religions have always mistreated women and never given their equal rights. It is because of the teachings and beliefs of the religions that women have always faced problems and have been discriminated. She suggests that women can work within the system, infact she should find new paths and ways to maintain their individuality (Daly, 1973, pp.53).

Daly believes that the ultimate goal of theology is the transformation into the whole human beings. She thinks that human becoming is the process when both masculine and feminine have developed their traits. She believes that the concept of God being male has enabled male to dominate the whole society. It has helped the male to take control over the entire system.
