Biological Psychology

Introduction

Biological psychology deals with the study of the physiological origins of behaviour. The relationship between the psychological procedures and the physiological happenings that underlie is the primary concern of biological psychology. It is also known as the “Mind and Body Relationship”.

The research psychologists are the experimental scientists of psychology who study the ways in which a human thinks, senses, learns and acts. They look at the behaviour of a human being and animals. In addition, they study the physical tribulations within the brain and work out to find the efficient cure strategies for problems, for example, a memory loss.

Divisions of Brain

The human brain is the most important part of the “Central Nervous System”. There are four main division of the brain of human which are;

Myelencephalon

It is denoted as the “Medulla” and it is composed of the territories that transport the signals amongst the body and the brain. This constituent of human brain is unfavorable because if any damage or injury takes place within this part, that would be life-threatening. It contains a reticular formation that is made up of a complicated networking of tiny nuclei in which the central part of the brain stem is occupied. This formation is known as the “Reticular Activating System” for the reason that it executes its responsibility in the stage of arousal which is not the single purpose of the reticular formation. Along with it, attention, sleep, the maintenance of muscles, mobility, reflexes of cardiac, pulmonary and circulatory systems are the functions of this division as well (Pinel, 2006). The psychologists may have an interest in researching about this division because the sleep and attention deficit disorders are associated with it.

Metencephalon

This division of brain is relatively similar to the Myelencephalon. In this part, the descending and ascending pathways are dwelled. This dwelling crafts a protuberance which is known as “PONS” that is situated at 5the ventral surface of the stem of brain. The Pons composes the most important part of this division of human brain. One larger part is cerebellum which is situated at the dorsal surface of brain stem. The ability of controlling the movements of the body and the adaptation of the altering conditions can be eliminated if this part of the brain of human is damaged or injured in any means. This area is of interest to the research psychologist who are willing to learn about ...
