Skeletal System

Skeletal system is said to be a biological system that facilitates a human body by providing support. It is the skin, muscles as well as the bones that aid in allowing movement to the human body. The Skin is said to be a pliable covering, it is the muscles which aids in movement of the body and the bones are said to provide an anchor via which the body moves. Bones are said to be made of a mixture of calcium chondroitin sulfate as well as hydroxyapatite

The function of the skeletal is not only to aid the body in moving by being an anchor but also but also be a source of support haematopoiesis. Haematopoiesis is a function that facilitates in the manufacturing of Red Blood Cells in the bone marrow. Patients who are said to be suffering from bone marrow cancer expire because the body is unable to produce Red Blood Cells. The skeletal system also aids in protecting the sensitive organs in the body such as the brain, lungs and the heart.

The human bones are said to be fused as well as individual bones which are inter-connected with each other via tendons, ligaments, cartilages as well as muscles. In totality there are 206 bones in the body and the number of bones varies which different phases of growth in the human body. Newborn babies are said to have 270 bones upon birth which tend to fuse as they grow up into the longitudinal axis that is the axial skeleton to which is appendicular system is attached.

Axial Skeleton

It has 80 bones in total which is said to form the vertebral column which has 26 bones, rib cage which has ribs and sternum which is in 12 pairs. It consists of skull which has 22 bones and 7 are said to be associated bones. When the human body is in the upright position it is maintained by the axial skeleton. It aids in transporting the weight of the head and the trunk along with the upper extremities to the hip joints. It is the ligaments which supports the bones of the spine

Appendicular Skeleton

This skeleton has 126 bones constituting pectoral girdles which are 4 in number. It has upper limbs which is 60 in number. It also has lower limbs which is 60 in number. All of these constituents have one main function which is the locomotion of ...
