Book Report: Yo! By Julia Alvarez

Introduction

Yo is a short for Yolanda Garcia, which is outrageously successful novel written by Julia Alvarez, in which she puts together “characters” of her lovers, friends and family. Although, Yo stretches out in the limelight, her nearest and dearest ones identify their uncovered and very familiar selves dangling in the similar spotlight. Hence, the fictionally victimized desire in telling their story' side. In brief, this novel is with reference to what takes place when a writer actually does write what she is familiar with the most. At once poignant and funny, gossipy and intellectual, layered and light-hearted in meaning, above all, Yo! is the artist's portrait. In addition, with its penchant for controversy, bright passion and colours, it is a representation that might come merely from the Julia Alvarez's palette.

This book report has three objectives: Firstly, explores who is Yo!; second aim is examine any personality or self-invention to seek at a great extent in another culture and in others, and the third objective is to review by seeing every story's other profile - the fiction that manages in escaping the creator to exposes the apparent canvas always terrifying realities.

First Point

The title of one word “Yo!” can be defined in three different ways. Firstly, “Yo” refers to “I” in Spanish, which is the first person singular pronoun, as well as an exclamation mark used as to attract attention, to express excitement, or used as a greeting; and it is also a short for Yolanda, the central character of the story on which all other characters are focused. It appears as predominantly fascinating title, particularly since Yolanda before has never got a chance to make use of the personal pronoun (Santiago, 2006).

Yo, and, in undertaking this expression, narrate own stories too. In my point of view, the use of such different words is quite effectual in gaining attention of the readers, as it increases the quest among readers and eventually develops their interest. The first impression of this novel is quite good mainly because of this word, as it appeared as a stimulator in gaining the interest to future read.
