Introduction

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant and factual information relating to the analysis of the book by Fadiman, i.e. “The spirit catches you and you fall down : A Hmong child; her American doctors, and the collision of two cultures”. The book highlights the huge distinctions between the Hmong outlook and the American attitude. Indeed the title discusses a crucial contrast in the way epilepsy is seen in the two societies; while American pharmaceutical sees it as a physical issue created by anomalous action, Hmong individuals trace it back to profound powers (Lucas et.al, 2013). The book is delicately and decently composed, with an adjusted presentation of the points of view and recognitions of both societies. The creator communicated her gratitude to the Lee family, “who changed my entire method for taking a gander at the planet when they invited me into their home, their day by day exists, and their rich society.”

This book gives knowledge into a society not quite the same as our own. This happened in the town I live in and I'm acquainted with the specialists and healing centers said which included investment. In my employment I manage the Hmong and this exceptionally impactful story gave me precisely what I required around then I was managing a therapeutic issue of one of my Hmong people (Lucas et.al, 2013). The parts are paralleled with the Hmong history and what the family and young lady were encountering in the western planet and the crash of the aforementioned societies. I might prescribe this book to help improve social affectability.

Two theoretical perspectives

Humanistic Perspective

Keeping in view the social aspect being presented in the book, the author, instead of focusing too strongly on the negative aspects of humans and the way they function. He decided to instead focus on more positive things such as joy, love, laughter, and happiness that exists in every human life, emphasizing growth, resilience, and the achievement of human potential. By reviewing the book, it can be observed that “it is not the “Big Five,” but rather the qualities of a “self-actualized” person that are the most important personality traits”. Maslow along with Carl Rogers and Rollo May created the Humanistic approach as a “third force” of psychology, focusing more on personality and the human potential, conclusioned heavily on the idea that humans are born with a healthy mind and soul, compared to Freud's beliefs.

Conflict Perspective

Considering the content in the book, diversity and conflict are natural in healthcare organizations and their team function. Thus, conflict in interdisciplinary teams is inevitable and natural. Conflict is inevitable in human organizations. In health care organizations, the potential for conflict is heightened because within these settings individuals must address life and death issues. They have to function both independently and interdependently within a system containing considerable role ambiguity and complex lines of authority. Health professionals need to be highly skilled both in technical areas and in human ...
