Borderline Personality Disorder

Introduction

The literal meaning of the word 'borderline' is in the middle of two things. Basically, clinician used this terminology when they were not sure about the right identification as the patient showed the symptoms of both neurotic and psychotic problem (Blais et al, 2008, p. 68). It was therefore though that such patients lie on the border of neurotic and psychotic problem and the use of terminology of borderline started.

Recently as the 'borderline' got its fame and as it is understood that such patient are not easy to cure so the clinicians started using this term in general way or used this term to justify their ineffective treatment.

Uncertainties about social relations, self-perception, distresses, and noticeable spontaneous actions that start appearing in the beginning of maturity and show itself in a number of ways are the main features of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

It is interesting to note that those people who do not have all of the traits of BPD but show some symptoms of the disorder can suffer from both BPD and narcissistic personality disorder. Though it is controversial that if BPD is actually a disorder on its own and just a type of bipolar disorder. However it is supported by the research that BPD can show itself with all of its uniqueness having its complexities in the patients. That is BPD can occur in some people without the combination of any other disorder while in some other people ...
