Organizational change for addressing staffing shortage in content writing department of Writersolutions.

Purposes

Human capital is undoubtedly the most important, essential, and impactful of all the assets in our organization. Having an excess of employees corresponds to wastage of resources. Similarly, having a shortage of workforce will hamper the productivity as well as deplete the energies of those already working with us. It results in many negative repercussions. While on one hand, we may not be able to produce the required number of articles in time for our clients, on the other there will be a decrease in the quality of work produced even if we were to meet our benchmarks. Our organization is involved in dealing with five clients, each of which requires a minimum of 16 articles to be produced. This means writing a total of 80 articles a day. Considering the fact that these articles are published in reputed newspapers and websites, there is a strong need to maintain the correct quality. We have been receiving a number of complaints from our clients recently who have noted the deterioration in the quality of articles being produced. The decrease in quality in not on account of any negligence on part of our writers, but due to a shortage of writers. We have a total of 10 writers producing eight articles which means that each person has to writer down 8 articles a day. Considering the fact that the articles need to be written from diverse fields such as sports, entertainment, style, business and current affairs, it takes a lot of research before being able to write an article. In this case, it becomes extremely difficult to write 8 articles with each article being of a minimum of 550 words. It becomes almost next to impossible to produce such a large amount of work while maintaining the quality.

It needs to be kept in mind that just two years back, our department had a staff of 20 writers, while we were entrusted with just 40 articles a day. This gave space to our writers who increased the quality of work. This enabled our marketing teen to attract more clients, and from having just two clients, we now have five clients with the number of articles having been increased to 80. Another point which proves my stance is that two of our clients who had entrusted us with 20 articles a day have now reduced the number of articles to 16 per day, citing a decrease in quality as the reason behind this decrease.

Being the sub-editor, it is my responsibility to point out this major staffing shortage to the concerned higher-ups. Lack of workforce is resulting in overwhelming of the workforce while also causing frustrations with the mangers and marketing department who have to assuage the increasing concerns of our clients.
