A Supervision Case Study

In this case study my aim is to represent through a relationship with a client the importance of supervision in Counselling. I will start by giving a detailed description of a story of my client named Chris. I will also relate how the supervision sessions concerning to this client enabled me to apply diligent practice. I saw my client Chris at Open Doors which is a charitable organization, funded by a cafe which is run on the premises. Clients are referred to Open Doors by the police, housing associations, health professionals and many self-referrals. My client, Chris had been referred by an organizer from the seven steps alcohol recovery program.

Before the first session, I wanted to understand the current situation of Chris. The problem of Chris was that, he was in the process of recovering from alcoholism but was still drinking very heavily. When I was to arrange our first session, the support worker insists that it is important to explain Chris that he had to be sober. If he was not known of the discussion then there is no point to have counselling. The issue of him was of disclosing information and not remembering what he had said.

Despite this, he did not have a drink all day. He was in a really bad situation that his hands were shaking vigorously, and he was sweating profoundly. He was also not able to sit still to have conversation with me. After 10 minutes, the session ended abruptly and Chris left by honestly saying that he desperately needs a drink. In the session nothing was covered apart from the ...
