Cause for the Black Family to Being in Crisis

Introduction

These are so many causes that the black family structure is facing these days, No matter what point of view we all take on the state of black relationships, we can all agree that there some serious, ugly issues.  In fact, the depth of the dysfunction that has come to plague the black family structure is sick enough to make you wonder if we should declare an indefinite moratorium on all reproductive activities.

Poverty is a global issue that affects people of all races all around the world.  From inner cities to villages, many people struggle on different levels of poverty today.

As many people struggle to overcome poverty worldwide, there live a people.  These people not only have a rich history, they have a unique story of overcoming many obstacles.  Although black people have overcome many obstacles in the past, poverty in the black community is a struggle today.  Addressing these struggles is a first step.

“The most dangerous person in the world is a person with no hope,” John Hope Bryant said.  “Black poverty is one of the most pervasive, hardest to solve.”

Bryant is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Operation HOPE Inc.  He has also served as an advisor to the last three U.S. presidents.  He has traveled the world and made it a mission to help the under-served worldwide.

Many people looking from the outside in only see the people who live in poverty as drug addicts, street prostitutes or criminals.  But what are some things that contribute to black's current socio-economic position today?

“Our family structure is breaking down, work ethic is breaking down, hustle; meaning constructive legal sense of hustle and hustling is breaking down,” Bryant said.  “Thrift is gone, savings forget about it.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau the poverty rates for blacks between 2009 and 2010 were rated one of the highest from 25.8 percent to 27.4 percent.

“There are so few black people in stem, science technology, engineering math, so forth, it aren't funny,” Bryant said.  “I think there were eight black Ph.D.s in economics two years ago in the country.

“So the whole game is about economics now, and we're not focused on it.  We're still focused on I want to be a rap star, I want to be in sports, it's all right being creative, we want to express ourselves.”

As Bryant elaborates on other things that contribute to blacks current socio-economic position he gives his interpretations on how it makes sense to him that black people want to be a part of the creative world but it is to the exclusion of everything else. He continued on how many black people today have a huge esteem problem. “The number one crisis in the black community is we don't love ourselves,” Bryant said.
