Abstract

The city of U.S has highlighted the fact that NYPD has to merge and communicate effectively with many other information sharing agencies in order to stop the terrorism and crimes occurring after the 9/11 attacks. Introduction

Background

The New York Police Department since 2001, has established a great surveillance program in order to analyze the events. The surveillance program is monitored and analyzed by American Muslim life daily throughout the whole of the city of the New York. In August 2012, the chief of the NYPD intelligence Division during the sword testimony admitted that in his tenure of six years, the unit connected with the American Muslim life had not even yielded a single criminal even after monitoring.

Regardless of the inefficacy, proponents of the surveillance have argued that spying on a specific community is harmless because it gives nothing as a result, and it is quoted that those who have done nothing should fear nothing at all. The interviews with the American Muslim community members show a completely different scenario. The surveillance has showed that it has protected the rights, the religious practices, and the political organizing speech. All the interviewees have noted that they were affected by the surveillance in some ways or the other.

The NYPD intelligence division took advantage of the police practice and the policies and also the climate after 9/11 and began spying on the American Muslim concentrations through the city of New York. American Muslims have been spied and mapped by the secret unit of the Intelligence Division. They are spied on the residential and social business landscape. In 2011 of August, NYPD's surveillance program won the Pulitzer Prize-winning award in the following investigation reports.

After 9/11 2001, the NYPD had its main attention and focus on the American Muslims. They only focused on the religion and the religion practice. They quoted different activities of the Muslims, like how many times they prayed during the university time. The NYPD made a better picture of the American Muslim community by sending the undercover officers to different places. The officers sent to different places were matched with the place with community, ethics and religion accordingly. Individuals, organizations and mosques were shocked to see their names in the documents of NYPD. (Bloomberg, 2013)
