Channel Characterization and Design For Advanced Ethernet Architectures
Channel Characterization and Design For Advanced Ethernet Architectures
Research Proposal
Introduction
From the day of its evolution in 1970's, the technology of Ethernet has been constantly evolving meeting with the requirements of the modern world at a very rapid rate. This is also necessary because the technology hast to fulfill the data transmission requirements which is also constantly increasing at a very high rate. By going through the phase of evolution the Ethernet based technology is continuously maturing towards betterment and advancements for many standards especially LAN (local area network) performing iterations at a very higher rate along with increased bandwidth and for the transmission of data over the internet. This paper describes the different standards of Ethernet and the techniques of data transmission with specific concentration on wired based medium for data transmission known as copper cable based medium for different rates of data transmission such as 10GbE LAN and 100GbE LAN based data transmission over copper wired channel [1].
Discussion
In order to keep pace with the rapidly growing demands of bandwidth, the operator of telecom industry are shifting from copper based cable television and telephone network system towards optical fiber networks which enables the high speed data transmission at a very rapid rate but it is not a feasible option because it will increase the overall cost of the optical fiber based infrastructure and will cause a significant delay in service in order to transfer the entire system from wired medium to fiber optics hence from business point of view it is not desirable. In many different countries it will take almost a decade in order to transfer the entire system from wired medium to fiber optics.
Therefore, the operators and vendors are working collectively on to enhance the bandwidth and broadband bit rates for the copper ...
