The new concept of learning at home has been revolutionized or made easier with the advent of computers and internet. Courses in the older times would be learnt through mails. Although finding a home based course was a difficult task in itself because no college, school or institute was willing to provide it. Then with the passing of time, courses were allowed to be learnt at home.
The students would be sent their course books also with audio tapes (magnetic tapes) or video cassettes, of their teachers giving lectures to the camera or the student. They were expected to use the videos and use them as a reference for their work. In the time of exams, they were required to physically come to the school or institute.
However, the internet has removed all the hassle. It provides real time classes online through, video conferencing, like Skype, Oovoo, etc, allowing the students to be 'present' in class while still being at home. However, it has become exceptionally easy to 'cheat' on the online test papers..

Since the dawn of the internet, home based learning has become exceptionally popular among students of all ages, especially in the adults who have a working schedule, since they can easily access their 'classes' from virtually any place with a computer and an internet connection. Even mothers have joined in the trend, as they can get education at home while looking after Little Jack at the same time. However, it does have its' drawbacks (Mitnick, 2002).
