If there is one thing that comes to the mind of any New Yorker or even those who have spent a lot of time previously in New York, by hearing the name of a cab is that of a checkered taxi cab. The checkered taxi cab has been prevailing and has been a famous part of New York since the year 1956. There has been a deep connection between the checkered taxi cabs and New York since a long time; this in turn has allowed a deep association to take place between the city and the cabs themselves.

Not only this, but the association between the object and New York has become so strong that even though if not mentioned, it is understood that if there is any discussion taking place regarding cabs in New York, it is evident that checkered taxi cab is to be a part of it.

The object under consideration in this research paper is the checkered taxi cab, which was used in the early 19th century only for the purpose of public transportation,. But then relevance and inter linkage of these taxi's became so much in New York, that within quite some time the cars that were being used as taxi's, also started to arrive in the passenger transport models as well which in turn were also accepted by the New Yorkers in a very short span of time. Therefore, this object which was first used for the purpose of just the public transport was later on used for the purpose of passenger transport on a personal basis (Huebsch, 1997).

Not only this, but the checkered taxi cab were later on used for the purpose of private hiring for parties , meetings, weddings and for other events as well through out New York. Furthermore, checkered has from then be used for many different purposes, which includes the purpose of film making and for the purpose of many different roles in Hollywood, within many famous movies and also within various TV series. Checkers taxi cabs of New York are not only a symbol of the representation of New York but is also known to bring charm, elegance and excitement to the movies and serials made in Hollywood or in any other events as well, which includes weddings, farewells, parties and many other such related events as well (Sayre, 2005).

These yellow medallion cabs of New York are known to be present in a number of twelve thousand seven hundred and seventy nine, which is a huge number of cabs being present for just one city, this is so because there is no limit for the taxi's that has been imposed by the city, not even on the manufacture or on the driving as well. Whereas, New York has become famously to be known as the city of yellow cabs, which represent the large number of checkered taxi cabs present in the city.
