Child Discipline: Spanking Does Not Do Any Good

Introduction

Spanking does not help in disciplining a child. Many people think that the best way to make a child behave properly is to hit them or spank them. There are children who are very arrogant and aggressive, but this does not mean that the parents should spank them. They should have brought him up in a way which would have helped him learn how to behave properly; therefore, hitting will not do any good. They are the ones who have spoilt them due to which the child has started misbehaving (Marshall, 2002). The paper will present claims that spanking does not do any good and does not help in improving the discipline of a child. It will also talk about the false arguments that people present in the favor of spanking a child.

Discussion

Spanking is not an acceptable behavior and does no good in helping a child improve his discipline. There are various reasons behind not spanking a child, such as:

Spanking a child makes him believe that might is right. He starts thinking that whenever someone is not listening or is not obeying to what the other person is saying, spanking him will do the job. He will listen only after he is spanked. Obviously, no parent wants his child to believe the same.

Another reason why spanking is not a good idea is because it will make the child learn the behavior and he will act the same with his friends, in school or whenever he is socializing. It has a very negative impact on the mind of the child. People who are involved in this activity should make sure that they do not hit their child (Engleberg & Wynn, 2010).

Once spanking becomes the habit of parents, they will lose their respect in the eyes of the children and the children will be unaffected by their spanking because it has turned into a habit now. They think that getting spanked is a routine now which will make them habitual to it, but will not have any effect on them.

Spanking makes children angry and frustrated. If this anger and frustration is stored in the child, it will be very difficult for the parents to take it out of them. They will grow up with the same feelings and will become frustrate and aggressive individuals. This will not be beneficial for the children because being aggressive is not good and the children will suffer a lot because of this in the future.

Parents should make sure that they nurture their child in such a way which will make him or her good human being. Spanking them will not fulfill this objective rather will the children will lose the ability to solve things peacefully and creatively. The children will see that their parents are not looking for peaceful and creative ways to solve the problems rather are getting violent and spanking them. This will make them learn the same and they ...
