Introduction

Child labour is a global issue which persists in both industrialized as well as developing countries. Child refers to the unfair emplacement of the children that deprives the childhood of the children. Their abilities and potentials are misused and they are pressurized to earn through any kind of job. Millions of the children are forced to do this exploitative practice regardless of their age. Asia and the Pacific region carry the largest number of children who are suffering from labour issues, where almost 9.3% of the child population is affected (ILO-IPEC, 2013, p. n.d.). Children are forced to work under the most severe and unfavorable conditions.

Domestic work

Prostitution

Child trafficking

Slavery practices

Begging

Commercial activities

Child labour is a vast practice which covers plenty of activities that keeps the children engage in earning with any means. They aren't allow to go school and have no or petite time to play. They often do not receive food or care of their desire against the work they do. They are underprivileged from their childhood. Children often work in unhealthy environment despite of any perilous activity going around. For example if a child is labouring in a chemical factory he is not given any precautions against the dangerous substances which directly affect the health of the children. A plenty of international organizations are involved in eradicating the issue of child labour globally. Here specifically child labour in India will be discussed in detail, as in India child labour prevails severely. In India child labour is in the extreme form, children are subjected to conditions of slavery. Child labour in India upholds the highest percentage which involves the children to work for various divisions of industry. (Mishra, L. 2000). These divisions include

Horticulture

Garbage picker

Jewellery industry

Agriculture

Household work

Glass manufacturing

Children are made to work in such areas so that they can earn for their families. The main reason for child labour is said to be “poverty”. International labour organization (ILO) was formed in 1919 in order to provide fair rights and treatment to the labours. It was amongst the first agency working under the supervision of the United Nations. They strived to promote decent employment and social protection to the working activities in a country (Cigno and Rosati, 2006, p.86).

Rights of the children

The most vulnerable children, the most exploited and also the most difficult to protect are the ones who are disowned by their families or possess no guardians. The rights of the children which should be given to them are clearly defined by the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC). Children rights should be provided to each individual who is below the age of eighteen. These rights cover (Cigno and Rosati, 2006, p.86).
