The Christian Counseling

This course is an introduction to the principles and basic practices of pastoral counseling. Pastoral Counseling is to help individuals, families or groups, to cope with stress and crises of life. Use a variety of methods to help people with problems in ways that are consistent with biblical teaching. From the perspective of biblical teaching, it is believed that all believers should bear the burdens of one another and that the pastoral counseling is the responsibility of all Christians. This course will consider the various theories, both secular and Christian. There will reports of class and practice the skills of the counseling process.

According to Dr. Gary Collins, "The greatest legacy of all Christian counselors is being a faithful servant - giving of himself, to honor God and serve him by serving other. There can be no better goal for counselors or greater indicator of success. “Christian counseling that is biblical try to bring people and their problems the living God. Must be based on the following convictions: (1) The Word God must be our authority to advice (2) Counseling is a part of basic discipleship ministry of the local church, and (3) God's people should be able to advise effectively.

Summary of the Book

Christian counseling is for the whole People of God - for all workers who love and serve God and are involved in ministry. It is not easy to advice on a skilled and disciplined this time in which we live, where the problems are so diverse the needs are so large and counseling techniques available are often confusing and contradictory. Literally, today is used by thousands of counseling methods. There seems to be so many theories and approaches to counseling as counselors. If one thing we know is there is no consensus on how right or improper counsel, so we found a cacophony of sounds from the community of directors. With so much activity and many criteria, including time professional can fully overwhelmed. It would be great if all these publications theories and training resources assist directors to be more effective, but some of books and seminars counseling are of questionable validity. Writers well-meaning but naive have proposed "new methods" simplistic originally claiming to be Christians, but fail to be effective. Pastor Richard Exley, who has helped many people through times crisis, says:"There is nothing in life more meaningful to work with God in rebuilding a shattered life."

The pastor says some people Exley call this counseling, but he called ministry. It reminds us a truth that lose sight that this is always a joint effort between the three people involved - God, the counselee and counselor.
