INTRODUCTION

Due to globalization day by day millions of people from all over the world continue on moving from rural areas into more urbanized areas, such as big cities (Logan, 2001, 102). This essay will compare two articles relating to the common theme of urban life and the paper will also discuss the advantages and shortcomings of urban life. The two articles that will be used for comparison are: 'City living makes it harder to concentrate' and 'The Growth of Gangs in Suburban Areas of the US'. The purpose of this paper is to extend the knowledge of readers on the advantages and disadvantages of urban life.

ANALYSIS: City Living Makes It Harder To Concentrate

Living in the urban area of any city is in a way very convenient due to ease of availability of important social structures like: hospitals, transportation, and employment. There are always two sides of the coin, whilst these are clear advantages of city living such as access to these facilities, there also are many disadvantages of city life. Living in a city is immeasurably more expensive, polluted, and noisier than living in suburbia or in the countryside. Urban areas can be advantageous and give many people greater opportunities toward a better living. For example, quick responses by our front line services such as ambulance police and fire personnel. Having access to entertainment such as cinemas, theatres, restaurants for families inclusive of sporting activities like football games, tennis, dance, singing, gymnastics, and swimming are usually within a half mile radius for many city dwellers. As compared to the life in rural areas, there are also different challenges that individuals have to face while living which tend to be unpredictable and leans towards a busy life.

City living provides a diverse range of good schools university and colleges. Utility supplies such as electricity and gas are rarely affected by the weather, within the city there are good roads for travelling and in some city there is twenty-four hours shop where individuals can get whatever they are looking for at any time. The article Air quality economic analysis undertaken by the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affair (2010), talks about the impact of air pollution on humans health and the environment. The article states that the air pollution is greatly harming the environment which is ultimately affecting the human's health. However, there are also more people that states that the culture diversity is enormous and has several benefits.

Those people believe that meeting and learning about different people's tradition is a memorable experience, which could have a positive effect on one another preconceived ideas. Overcrowding noise, crime and street gangs are common factors that the urban area is facing. It is common these days that people prefer to stay in the city because it is more convenient for them.
