Paul Gilroy is the scholar of cultural studies, history and professor at the London School of Economics. His primary concern is the racial and social discrimination. His primary concern was with the Blacks in the Western Europe. He is the author of various books that address the issue of racial and social discrimination like, Ain't no Black in the Union Jack (1987), Small Acts (1993), The Black Atlantic (1993), Between Camps (2000) and After Empire (2004). His contribution in the political and cultural debate on racism and race is very important. One of his books, The Black Atlantic (1993), is the perfect book on the most important concern regarding this social and racial discrimination. This book highlights the theme, culture and tradition of the west with reference to the Blacks and the racial discrimination for the cultural studies. Treatment with the black slaves and its effect on the poetics, art, music, politics, and culture transfers those feeling and emotions to the modern world. The concept of double consciousness, double vision, and dichotomy is very clearly explained in this book. He studied these concepts and history with the help of art and cultural history that not only provide the history but the feelings, emotions and sufferings of those people. The concept of dichotomy is very clear from the racial discrimination in The Black Atlantis, and this prevents from the assimilation of transitional black culture of resistance (Goyal, 2010, p.55).
Thesis Statement
The concept of dichotomy is very clear that there had always been the two opposing ideologies, on one hand, the politics and culture were not to discriminate and on the other hand, these discriminations were very obvious in their treatment with the blacks.
Discussion

Dichotomy
It is defined as the comparison of two contrasting ideas. According to Merriam Webster, dichotomy is “a difference between two opposite things: a division into two opposite groups” (www.learnersdictionary.com). It is the process of dividing the idea into two in which there are two distinct concepts. The concepts of black and white dichotomy were very common, and Gilroy was very well aware of them (Mishra, 2006, p.77)
Identification of Dichotomy in Quotation from the Black Atlantic
The Black Atlantic deals with the concept of cultural and racial discrimination and analysis of the writings of the black at that time. This directly attacks the politics and culture of the western world and their treatment with the blacks. The blacks had to suffer, and they were treated as slaves, and there is no acceptance of this race in their culture and society. This is rather more miserable state for this race they already had lost their identity as the African, and they were not accepted as the Europeans. The dichotomy of the different culture on eth basis of the basis of the intelligible and ...
