Introduction

The main focus in this topic is to compare and contrast the women's and men's roles are portrayed in the two plays known as Fences and Trifles. The roles of the men and women will be assessed in these two plays and it would be compared with the present roles they have in today's society. The roles of the men and women have gone through a transformation over the past several years especially of the women because of the changes in the Global scenario. Therefore, all the issues and aspects related to the comparison of the women's and men's roles will be discussed in detail.

Discussion of the two plays

Fences

This plot is based on the story in the year known as 1957. The two central characters of this play were Troy Maxson and his friend Jim Bono. The role of the wife of Troy is also important in this play. The name of the Troy's wife is Rose. The entire story revolves around their relationship and the issues related to their son. The father and son did not have very ideal relationship as the father was not happy with the son of pursuing a decision in a particular career. Though, the mother has given complete support to the son in choosing his career. Secondly, Troy had some other issues as well which led to a confrontation with his wife and son. The son was forced to leave home and go ahead with his life. The wife was also not happy with the husband as Troy did not only have problems with this son but his personal affair with a woman also led to a major confrontation with his wife Rose. Though, Troy had realization about his responsibilities but he was unable to deal with his desires that he had in his life. Though, in the end, Rose and their son, Croy attended the funeral of Troy and also remembered some of the positive aspects of Troy (Fishman, 294).

It can be said that the character of Troy can be related to the person who has understanding of problems but also struggles to fight with his own desires that can create a bad effect on the entire family.
