Comparing between Hollister and Abercrombie

Introduction

This essay focuses on comparison between two pictures having something in common which is a part of metaphors analysis. Metaphors analysis is a type of analogy in which two different things having some kind of similarity. Although, it sounds like an analysis, but one needs to think in order to support the fact or make sense.

For this essay, pictures of two brands' apparels, Hollister and Abercrombie, have been chosen for the comparison. In the apparel industry, one of the most popular names that come up immediately in the minds of buyers is Abercrombie. It is one of the highly perceived brands of apparels that are a dream of most of the people. Hollister, which is a subsidiary of Abercrombie and Fitch (A&F), has generally been promoted as a cheaper version of Abercrombie. Although, Hollister is a subsidiary, it more often acts like a division (Hollister.com). The reason that both the brands are almost similar in designs must be because they both are owned by the same company, i.e. A&F.

Furthermore, Abercrombie uses a nice San Serif font in its logo many times have an additional prints styles, on the other hand, Hollister uses finish fonts. Abercrombie logo depicts more of a friendly and lively touch. In the context of manufacturing and marketing, Hollister is more focused on mid-teen and high school buyers, particularly, people who are between the ages of fourteen and eighteen. On the other hand, Abercrombie primarily focuses on a much younger lot of fashion fans or customers, specifically those in their preteens till the middle aged teenagers between the ages of seven and sixteen years. Although, the clothes from both the brands do not differ much in design, yet the clothes under the brand of Abercrombie give a trendy and classy look where as the clothes under the brand of Hollister give a fun and beachy look. Both Abercrombie and Hollister are famous for their apparels and known by teens and high school kids as being a part of one company. Still, there is difference observed in the material of Abercrombie and the material used by Hollister in their material, where the material is comparatively light in clothes by Hollister. However, the quality used by both the companies is same.

Following pictures are of knits dresses, where one is a design from Hollister and the other one from Abercrombie. The most common thing between both the pictures is their style and type. This is, generally, observed in all of the clothes that are designed by Hollister and Abercrombie. In addition to this, both the knits have short sleeves and also have equal length. These similarities, many times, make the product of both brands difficult to be differentiated.
