The importance of the photosynthetic production of electricity is extremely high. This technology is around three billion years old. If the system is revolutionary for humans, this method of storage of solar energy has already been invented by nature for more than 3 billion years. Over hundreds of millions of years of evolution, life has developed as highly sophisticated and efficient for photosynthesis. Each step of the process is remarkably enhanced; it absorbs light and use the energy collected to obtain electron transport from them to other reaction centers. It stores, and disseminates the excess energy, which creates the biomass. Artificial photosynthesis tries to reproduce and enhance the natural process of plants, commonly to obtain the hydrogen needed for fuel cells. The "artificial leaf" allows water oxidation, which produces electrons and in turn reduces the water protons and produce hydrogen.

In laboratories, chemists develop and test modular assemblies capable of performing the three functions: capturing light and converting it into chemical energy, transport electrons and catalyzing the oxidation of water (Richard, 1995). If returns are sufficient, one would hope to produce hydrogen cleanly (without using electricity produced elsewhere) and having to cover vast territories of algae or solar panels. The majority of the current energy needs are met via a process of photosynthesis in ancient or modern ways. However, the information acquired gained from research of photosynthesis can be even consumed to boost production of energy in a proper way. Even, though the general procedure of photosynthesis is not very effective, the first technique is the adaptation of sunlight into chemical energy.
