Overview of the Novel

The topic is based on the novel “My Antonia” written by Willa Cather. Before the publication of the novel, “My Antonia”, she published her first novel in the year, 1912; with a title “Alexander's Bridge” that did not received a very positive response. In the following year, Cather received acclaim by many literary experts who published novel “O Pioneers”. This novel was based on the exploration and the celebration of the frontier life in the American West. In the year 1918, Cather also had an important role for having a status as the most celebrated post Civil War Americans novelists (Urgo, 217). This was achieved after she published the novel “My Antonia”. Therefore, all the issues and aspects related to the novel will be discussed in detail.

Description of the Novel

“My Antonia” was certainly a very well developed composition that analyzed the significance of the other novel Virgil. The epigraph of both novels had a lot of value as they shared some similarity with each other. It can be said that the epigraph set a tone for the novel. In comparison with other novels, My Antonia fictionalized the recollection of her young age spent in rural Nebraska. The narration of My Antonia is considered a fiction story, but similarities exist between the Cather and novel's protagonist's life. The protagonist of the novel was Jim Burden. As compare to Cather, Jim Burden also moved Virginia to Nebraska during the childhood, in order to stay with her grandparents. Jim also enrolled in the University of Nebraska located in city, Lincoln. They also finally shifted to New York from Nebraska.
