ABSTRACT

The study aims to provide persons involved in construction project including current and potential clients, project managers, designers, CDM co-ordinates, principal contractors with a broad overview on the CDM Regulations 2007. This will also be designed to provide personnel who are designers & clients under the CDM regulation 2007 with a sound understanding of their responsibilities and duties, and be familiar with the design risk reduction options. Whether it is still considered to be the best method for managing design and construction of projects in this modern world? This will be researched and discussed. The aim of Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) is to improve the health and safety record of construction work by requiring all parties involved in a project to take responsibility for health and safety, at the planning stage, through delivery to maintenance and final demolition/decommissioning. The goal is to reduce all incident and fatality rates, encourage co-operation and co-ordination between duty holders and to also simplify the Regulations in order to improve clarity on what is expected of duty holders. CDM 2007 additionally aims to reduce bureaucracy and paperwork.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Outline of the Study

This research will provide persons involved in construction project including current and potential clients, project managers, designers, CDM co-ordinates, principal contractors with a broad overview on the CDM Regulations 2007. This will also be designed to provide personnel who are designers & clients under the CDM regulation 2007 with a sound understanding of their responsibilities and duties, and be familiar with the design risk reduction options. The study comprises the following sections:

Chapter 1 is an introductory chapter presenting the background of this study, main goals, purpose of the study and research questions.

Chapter 2 is a relevant literature review in the study area, highlighting the previous research carried out in this field.

Chapter 3 presents an overview of research methodology chosen for this study. Research design, the data collection method, samples, sampling method, research instrument, validity, reliability, and the ethical concerns are presented in this chapter.

Chapter 4 presents the analysis of findings and discussion of the detailed study.

Chapter 5 concludes the dissertation, providing implications and useful recommendations for further research.

Background of the Study

Construction has always been at the centre of certain issues and controversies due to failure of construction design and management. Construction designing is a specialised department that involves dynamics and processes of complex multi-disciplines. According to Prescott (1999), construction designing covers ...
