Part II

Why have you chosen the elective classes (or specialization) included in your degree plan?

The degree plan which I have chosen to undertake has been carefully reviewed to include all aspects of the subject area which I wish to specialize in. My aim is to attain a degree in Masters of Science in Criminal Justice with specialization in Law. Therefore, subjects like Advanced Topics In Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and the U.S. Supreme court, Evidentiary Issues In Criminal Cases, Comparative Criminal Justice Systems, Specialized Criminal Statutes And Complex Investigations and Employment And Policy Law will help me attain my goal.

These are therefore the classes I have chosen as my elective courses which will help me understand complicated and complex issues related to contemporary criminal law. It will allow me to address the issue of constitutional requirements related to suspects and acquire in depth knowledge of how the federal and state rules of evidence are tied up with the U.S constitution. More importantly, my selected courses will not just afford me knowledge about my home country's criminal justice system, but also allow me to be well informed about the foreign criminal justice systems inner working.

In today's' fast shrinking world which some call an ever expanding global village, international criminals should also be brought to justice. All of these combined subjects will afford me further understanding about the why and how of our legislation via comprehensive case laws which professionals working in the field right now face daily. By the end of my selected courses, I will have sufficient knowledge about substantive and procedural criminal law. This will further allow me to understand the issue of ethics in relation to law, as I imagine moral dilemmas are quiet common in my chosen field.

What skills and knowledge do you expect to learn from these classes?

There are many skills and knowledge to be attained from studying the courses outlined in my customized degree plan, some of which have already been outlined above. However, what I hope to achieve above all can be understood from a simple definition of 'Criminal Justice' and terms like 'Criminology.' Criminal justice refers to knowledge which concerns controlling crime via scientific administration like governmental and legal institutions. These include courts, correctional agencies and of course the police. Knowledge about these will be gained via the selected courses and classes which will teach me about my home country's justice system. It will also stimulate understanding of how legal systems operate world over; thus enabling me to broaden my approach towards my career goals. Thus, studying a course specifically designed to inculcate an understanding of such vast institutions working on local, state and federal level will afford anyone the skills and knowledge to help combat the rising levels of crime in today's world.

How will these individual skills and knowledge help you in your field?
