In my opinion the era of paper literature really coming to an end, and soon the market of printed materials shall undergo significant changes. Of course, what I say is not unfounded, and I have strong arguments to justify my side of the argument.
Thesis Statement
“The traditional paperbacks are on their way to extinction, made redundant by its' modern and more convenient successor the e-book”
Discussion
In order to support my argument I have eight major points which shall be described as follows. Firstly I believe in saving natural resources. It's no secret that humanity does not care for nature. The Worlds' Oceans act as dumps for hundreds of tons of debris, including the chemical wastes from factories; forests are destroyed, cut down much faster than new trees manage to grow. Accordingly, products with wood as raw materials are becoming more and more expensive, gaining a more and more "elite" status. This is foundation of my next argument, cost of the books. The creation of a paper book requires incomparably more resources than creation of an e-book. Cost is simply incomparable. Countless trees are cut down and harvested everyday in order to make paper for the books, add the costs of paint, gluing, cover, it increases the price drastically (Sechrist, 2012) along with the damage to Mother Nature. In the case of an e-book all it requires is one computer and salary coder, a designer and proofreader.
The third point I would like to highlight is the physical size. One big paperback book weighs more than a kilogram and in addition to weight takes up tangible space in the bags. On the other hand electronic versions of the same book weigh only a few megabytes requiring a single MicroSD flash card which is a small, thin, platelets weighing a few grams. E-Books that can be contained in these platelets might occupy endless shelves in print or even large buildings of several floors (libraries). So again, in terms of the size and physical footprint the e-book renders paperbacks obsolete (Mims & Nollen, 2012, pp. 256).
The fourth point is portability (Rash, 2012, para 14). On the road or at home in a comfortable chair, one can read e-books on their laptop or smart phone. It even gives a type size option in all the devices for the convenience and comfort of reading for the eyes. They are being ...
