Decision Making & Clinical Epidemiology

[Date of Submission]Decision Making & Clinical Epidemiology

Introduction

With the main goal of finding ways to avoid or halt communicable epidemics, a clinical epidemiologist generally works for a health care service (Abramson, 2001). A wide range of health care issues is studied by the epidemiologist. Using clinical epidemiology, a plan was formulated in order to guide action and certain opinions dealing with the issue of mold infestation, in this case study. Different types of molds were selected that with each type of mold given, can be developed from associated health risks and the flood damage. To health practitioners who will likely treat the different mold symptoms, a plan was outline to communicate the key information along with a timeline.

Along with the disadvantages and advantages, different methods were used to decrease mold exposure. In order to address the concerns of the community, a few discussion points were highlighted that were used by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. In the end, in order to evaluate the long term effects of mold exposure, a study was opinionated.

To guide actions and opinions on dealing with mold infestations, clinical epidemiology can be used. Unobstructed mold is not a substantial health risk, for the majority of persons. For people with conditions, like, mold allergies or impaired host defenses, mold is a greater hazard (Bush & Et.al, 2006). People must keep clothing, skin, and hands free and clean from mold-contaminated dust, use personal protective equipment and environmental controls, and avoid areas where mold contamination in obvious, to avoid contact that can result in adverse health effects from disturbed mold.

To see what type of mold we are dealing with, contact Department of Environmental protection. I need to calculate how many commercial building; personal house and people are involved. In order to calculate the required number of medical staff, I will assess how many people will need medical attention. To prevent as many people as I can from health injuries pertaining to mold, I can give my opinion regarding the required action, once I have all the relevant data.

In the air, we breathe, and all the time around us, there are different types of mold present, i.e. allergic, toxic and black mold. Mold spores and mold are generally harmless, in low levels, but they can affect people if their level increases. People with suppressed immune system or respiratory conditions, asthma and allergies can especially get affected from it. In low amounts, mold spores and allergic mold are generally not dangerous for humans as they cause asthmatic or allergic symptoms. Basically, these types of mold can be safely removed and cleaned and relatively easy.

It is essential to note that allergic reactions or allergy symptoms can be triggered from mold particles or mold spores. Mold spores and mycotoxin mold contains toxins in the cell wall and can cause serious health problems in animals and humans (Hardin & Et.al, 2003). These molds range to even death, cancer and immunosuppression, from short-term ...
