Decision of adoption in teenage pregnancy

Abstract

This research paper is based on the decision of the teenage girls who chose placing the child for adoption rather than a parenting the child. There are several factors that affect on the decision of adoption of unmarried teenage girls. The dependent variable in this research is the “option of adoption” and the independent variable is “influencing factors”. The influencing factors are the factors that directly or indirectly influence the decision of unmarried teenage girls; whether to abort the child, place the child for adoption, or parent the child. This paper focused on t him demographic factors, socio-economic factors, personal factors, and cultural factors that have a strong impact on the teenage girls for pacing the child for adoption. The society, family, peers, friends, and father of the child, are the major influencers. The effect of these influencers is well described in this research paper. In United States, the trend of placing the baby for adoption is common and teenage girls who are unmarried heavily places the child for adoption. The adoption agencies revealed the data of girls belonging to different ethnic groups. It is seen that 3 percent of the white American teenagers place the child for adoption and 2 percent of the black American teenagers places the child for adoption. In United States, New York is the city that is known for higher rates of adoption. This paper also defined the crucial point that is abortion is also common and 40 percent of the teenage girls reported to abort the child. As, abortion is an unethical practice, therefore, the option of adopting is more desirable than the option of abortion and parenting the baby. At the end, this paper has also incorporated the two cases of teenage girls whose unwanted pregnancy forced them to take decisions that are morally acceptable and not against the society. Their decisions were structured by the social influences. in short, the social factors has a strong affect on the decision making of teenage girls whether to abort, parent , or place the child for adoption.
