Design and Access Statement

Introduction

This proposal design and access statement has been design to create and generating an environment for the growing orchids, creating space of a flower exhibition that would be a new living space for plants which would allow to articulate spatially and to deal with it architectonically. Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is located in south central Collier County about 25 miles east of Naples and 75 miles west of Miami (see Location Map). Access is from U.S. Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail) on the south side and from State Road 29 on the east. U.S. Highway 84 (Alligator Alley), which is adjacent to the northern preserve boundary, has been converted to a controlled access interstate highway.

State Road 29 parallels the eastern boundary and provides access to the preserve via the interstate highway and from U.S. Highway 41. The Fakahatchee Strand contains a rich assemblage of plants and animals and boasts the best example of a strand community in the United States. It is also noted for an abundance of imperilled plants and several listed wildlife species including the Everglades mink, and the endangered Florida panther. Several archaeological sites have been discovered on the property. In addition to its biological and archaeological value, the Fakahatchee Strand is an important link in the chain of regional water resources. Surface water enters from the north after flowing through the Big Cypress National Preserve and the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge.

Leaving the preserve, it flows south into Everglades National Park, nourishing the estuarine ecosystem of the Ten Thousand Islands. At this unit, public outdoor recreation is the designated single use of the property (Aberley, 1994, 32).

Purpose and Scope

This project serves as the basic statement of policy and direction for the management of Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park as a unit of Florida's state park system. It identifies the objectives, criteria and standards that guide each aspect of preserve administration, and sets forth the specific measures that will be implemented to meet management objectives. The plan is intended to meet the requirements, Florida Administrative Code, and intended to be consistent with the State Lands Management Plan. With approval, this management plan will supersede and replace the current approved plan of April 5, 1994.All development and resource alteration encompassed in this plan is subject to the granting of appropriate permits; easements, licenses and other required legal instruments. Approval of the management plan does not constitute an exemption from complying with the appropriate local, state or federal agencies. The plan consists of two interrelated components.

Each component corresponds to a particular aspect of the administration of the preserve. The resource management component provides a detailed inventory and assessment of the natural and cultural resources of the preserve. Resource management problems and needs are identified, and specific management objectives are established for each resource ...
