This research paper is based on highlighting the issues related to a criminal act named “Deviance” according to the United States Criminal Justice System. Deviance is based on behaviors and actions of individuals that are involved in violation of social norms and values. Introduction

A sociological context used in explaining behaviors and actions in violating social norms and values including formally enacted rules along with informal violations of social norms is known as Deviance. Deviance is the scope of an influence related to psychologists, criminologists, psychiatrists and sociologists for studying how they change over time, how these norms are formed and how they are implemented on the society. According to sociological studies, there are various forms of deviance like for example how people use informal deviance is an important kind of deviance that is considered essential in studying the actions and behaviors of people living in the society. Sociological interest in deviance is based on a number of theories and measuring formal deviance, which help the authorities as well as individuals in explaining both the role of deviance in its origins as well as in the society. There are several theories that can be used in addressing and highlighting the issues related to deviance, which are prevailing in the society and it also covers the current criminal practices (Martin, 2010).

Violation of Social Norms or Deviance

The expectations and rules through which the members of the society can take conservative guidance are commonly known as norms. The concept of deviance is linked to a failure in becoming traditional to the established norms of the society. Each culture is based on different social norms, as every culture is different from other. Like for example in a particular society if any particular deviant is considered as a crime that support in breaking a social norm might be a normal act in another society (Jacobsen, 2012). The deviance is considered as an infringement of social norms and various sociologists have distinguished it as any feeling, action or thought that can be considered as a violation of rules or values according to the social group judges. The social system can be severely harmed through the acts of deviance; therefore it should be stopped from the society.
